About this speaker
Lucy Hope is a children's author. Her two middle-grade novels, Fledgling and Wren, were published by Nosy Crow in 2021 and 2022. Her past career might best be described as eclectic, with roles in product management, marketing, paint colour consultancy, BBQ hut sales, web design and teaching. She also enjoyed a brief spell as a dinner lady, which mostly involved crawling beneath tables to catch escaping Babybels, patching playground injuries with regulation blue paper towels and blowing her whistle authoritatively in the playground. Her first degree was in Business Studies, but her life dramatically changed tack when she signed up for the MA in Writing for Young People at Bath Spa University. At the end of the course, she was offered representation by children’s literary agent, Joanna Moult, and shortly afterwards signed a publishing contract with Nosy Crow. She is currently working on two new writing projects and teaches creative writing to adults and children at an arts centre in Teddington. In her free time, she loves to read, cycle in Bushy Park and explore the UK in her campervan. She can occasionally be found in the gym but is more likely to be spotted in one of Teddington’s many coffee shops. She was diagnosed with ADHD in 2024 at the age of 55 and suddenly all her life decisions made sense.
